In order to understand Beowulf, we must understand that time period in which is was written. Who are the Anglos, Saxons, and Jutes? How was their life different from ours today?

Beowulf Study Guide
The story of Beowulf is an epic poem. The original version is unrecognizable to most people today, unless you are an Old English Scholar. Use the study guide as we read and listen in class.

The Movie
We will have a chance to watch the Beowulf movie in class this year. It is very different from the story written back in the year 1000 A.D. As we watch, think about why some of the changes were made. Is it possible that the movie is an even better story? If so, why? Why not?
Below I have embedded the movie trailer, for those of you who have not yet seen it.
Enjoy!
