Of course, it's interesting how well this tragedy fits in with the theme of the senior speeches over the past few days. Nearly all students are concluding their speeches by reminding the class that life is short, high school is fleeting, to cherish the moment, and to hold on to memories because you never know what's going to happen next. While the students have a much more interesting set of memories to leave behind, the memories of the Penguins glass sitting on the desk will be one that's not forgotten.
The really sad part is that I never even got to use the glass. I told myself I would wait until the Penguins won the Stanley Cup again. Perhaps it is never to be... But that's too depressing a topic for this Wednesday. After all, the other half of my students' messages has been to look forward and be ready for the next stage of the journey.
