Shameless

The first day of PETE&C presentations is in the books!  Today's session started with a very dynamic presentation from Kevin Honeycutt on the importance of making education real.  Among his many excellent points, he challenged teachers to be the ones to change, to be the ones to reach out to the students who may have a rough life at home, to allow students to have control over their projects, their work, and make content that really stays meaningful.

This afternoon's sessions focused on BYOD policy, creating a welcoming environment in online learning, and the art of shamelessly promoting yourself.  One of the aspects I liked best about the last presentation was the idea that as teachers, we are responsible for re-storying the story to eliminate the negative.  The internet will be quick to buzz a story about a social network lesson gone wrong, but often ignore all the positive work.  People have views of teachers, tech directors, students, and parents all preconceived...and change will only come from within.  How do we do this?  As teachers, its important to connect with other teachers, principals, parents, and community members to get our message out.  Go big!  Spin the story in the biggest, best, most positive light...because if you don't, who will?

To the teachers reading, how will you share your classroom with the world tomorrow?  Students, what do you want people to know about you and how will change it?  Perhaps it's not so shameless after all to focus on the best and bring everyone in.
