The real trick is building years of traditions in a single event. Growing up at Bethel Park, Homecoming had been a long-established juggernaut which clicked along without much effort each year. The parade, the game, the bonfire, the dance all worked together to build each other up. To create each of those from scratch would have been a whole different story.
Thankfully, we've got some great people on the case and I think we're going have a great week. Starting in just 12 days, the Senior Class is launching the "Homecoming Games"...similar to the Hunger Games minus the starvation of massive dystopian mindset. Teams of 5 will compete after school from September 15-19 as they compete to be crowned Victors in advance of the Homecoming celebration week. My new goal is to convince the Seniors to simply make all of Homecoming into a Hunger Games theme complete with a "Catching Fire/District 13" bonfire, a Victor's Tour Pep Rally, an array of Tributes (Homecoming Court), and a Capitol-themed dance. That just might the kick this week needs to make itself a "First Annual Tradition." Wish them luck, and may the odds be ever in their favor.
