I'm finding that to be good advice for myself. Last break, I spent the whole time writing Ch. 2 of my dissertation. Whether I was physically sitting and typing, or just ruminating on the work to come, I don't remember it being a very relaxing vacation. Before my students left for Christmas break, I told them "hey, straighten out these desks before you leave!" Another thing I said, however, was "don't do any work over the break." I'm sure some teachers (either intentionally or accidentally) gave homework for the twelve day break, but I think it's important to take a step back and just do nothing for a period of time. Only when you're able to decompress for a few days will you be able to bounce back in the new year.
