While no one likes to pay taxes, filing the return doesn't have to be quite as awful as they suggest. I can't imagine how the older generations did it, but over the past few years it's been incredibly simply using TurboTax or HR Block, or the many other types of software. In fact, if you've done everything right the entire year, you'll likely be looking at some money back from the whole process. The money is waiting for you, if only you're clever enough to claim it.
In an act of sheer coincidence, the senior research project is due today. Much like the taxes, many are scrambling to turn them in by midnight, some are sitting by as they completed the project weeks ago, and a few will likely take their chances to see if I'm serious on the whole "no credit" thing. Much like the tax returns, those who dove into this project, picked an interesting book, and worked proactively are finishing their year on a high note. They're defeating senioritis and enjoying the fact they can coast the rest of the year in peace. Those who have waited...they're stressed. The procrastination they figured would give them a stress-free project has resulted in an uncomfortable situation.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Whether its taxes, a research paper, or any daunting task...eventually it needs done. Do it now and enjoy it, or put it off and dread. The choice is yours.
