It's the same strategy that can apply to conduct in an interview, or when introducing yourself in class, or anything that may involve presentation. If you're focusing on the reaction, or trying to put on a performance, you're likely to get caught up in the performance and forget about the content itself. If you let the content be king, however, you're much more likely to knock it out of the park. Not to say it's always perfect, but as with any sort of acting, the content has to shine through the most.
