It's a silly conversation to have, I suppose, but I think it's a pretty good metaphor for how, sometimes, things like grades, GPA, and Class Rank can be poor indicators of performance. Once can technically "win" the contest, but that doesn't mean they're any statistical amount better than the others in the competition. You might be able to cut band, art, and humanities courses from your schedule to boost your GPA...but does that mean you're smarter than the other kids who didn't? Are you truly the gold medal winner...or just another athlete who dove on dry land and is now lying on the floor?
Hopefully that's the last Olympic Dive we see this year...though with still another five days to go, I'm sure there's another twist or two before the closing ceremonies.
