This week, I decided I'd finally bite the bullet and make the porch great again. After bleaching, scrubbing, three coats of floor point, and hours and hours painting all the trim, it's finally in good shape. I find myself sneaking back to look at it throughout the day...admiring the very subtle changes that no one will actually ever notice.
And it makes me wonder that same old question every home owner asks themselves: is this even worth it? There's always something to repair or touch up around the house..but you know that even if you fix everything as soon as it breaks...it'll just need another coat of paint in a few years anyway. Is it better to just live with it until it dies...or until it's so awful you have to step in? Or should you make the fix immediately...to avoid bigger issues.
Regardless, the porch is done, at least for a few more years. Hopefully someone (who hasn't read the blog) notices.
