On Saturday morning, Mike White published an article about Baldwin's big win over Peter's Township, which focused not only on the team's success, but the crowd's support. (Check out the full text here: http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/highschool/2016/01/16/Baldwin-holds-on-for-win-1/stories/201601160124) It definitely helped that it was a Friday, and the day before a four day break, and youth recognition night, but even still, there was an energy in the gym which is usually only reserved for September football games and volleyball championship match ups. The students, staff, and community were all out in force to create a truly animated (and intimidating) environment for the Highlanders.
Of course, while the students and staff deserve a little credit, it's really all about the product on the court. As someone remarked as I was leaving the gym "winning cures everything". The impressive nature of the season has been all that's been needed to bring the nascent support that's been dormant for so long. I think that's the real lesson of this season so far; just like the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2013 or the Penguins in 2005, there's no such fan as a bad fan-base...they're always there, just waiting for a win.
