Thankfully, today, it was a little bit cooler, and I woke up a little earlier and found the running was an order of magnitude easier. Just like that, I'm back on track...in fact I'm slightly ahead of schedule. (I'm still not a fan of training in August though. October will be a welcome change.)
I don't tell this story to brag about anything. In fact, my 12 mile run was pretty slow and needs a lot of work if I'm finally going to break 3:46 in November. The point is...that sometimes it's ok to quit. If you know your limits, re-evaluate your situation, and try again, you'll be much more likely to succeed than simply "toughing it out". Now if only we could get the students to be graceful quitters, perhaps learning would happen more naturally in school.
