Year 1- Survive.
Year 2- Do Better than Year 1, Make a Website
Year 3- Twitter and Incorporate Project-Based Assessments into the Curriculum
Year 4- Gamify the Class, Start a Blog, Attend Everything
Year 5- Refine the Gamified Course, Start TEDxBaldwin, Co-Sponsor Senior Class
Year 6- ?
Of course the tricky part is that each new year and each new goal brings with it the need to re-achieve the goals from the previous year. I walk into this school with the understanding I'll be doing better than Year 1 while running a website, a blog, a Twitter account, PBAs, Gamification, TEDxBaldwin, Senior Class work, and attending everything that's possible. At this point, what's the goal this year?
Looking back, I think this year is less about introducing anything new, and more about specializing on the little things. How can I make sure I'm talking to more students each day, rather than just proclaiming things to the class and letting them work independently? How can I make sure the Senior Class leaders are actively growing in leadership skills and starting new traditions, rather than just checking off boxes from a prescribed list? How can I make sure the TEDx conference improves on last year's inaugural showing and brings in a wider audience? Those are really the questions to look at, rather than trying to add a bunch of new programs to the list. Even though I might feel I'm not doing anything better, I can definitely get better at all the things I've started.
Regardless, I've got 90 hours to recharge for Round 6. Plenty of time.
