Today celebrates the 239th birthday of the creation of the United States of America. As such, this entry is going to be rather short, because no one should have to blog a long time on a holiday.
Fourth of July is always an interesting holiday because it is simultaneously sincerely celebrated by so many people, yet also celebrated sarcastically and comically by the same people as well. The same people who will salute the troops and put a flag in their yard, will also make jokes in the vein of the Team America movie. It's the one day a year that you can hear "God bless America" and " back to back world war champions, F yeah "in the same conversation about the same thing.
What does it all mean? Has America lost this reverence? Does America simply have an excellent sense of humor? I'm sure the answer is a little of both. In the meantime, enjoy your holiday! The Pirates have won and the fireworks are on their way. Happy Birthday USA!
