When people attend an event like graduation, its really easy to focus on the little things. Why didn't they make it earlier? Why is it too long? I can't hear the microphone very well? Those things may all be true, but really they're at the bottom of our priority list. Only when we've piled through everything else and reached a point where the event is functional can we begin to refine the last minute details. I can easily see how outsiders might get frustrated, but it's not that the insiders don't know about the shortcomings...it's that they just can't afford the time to care.
That being said, graduation looks like it'll be ready to go. Even though all these details are ready to go, I have no doubt that next year, I'll be able to have a stronger voice in the planning process. At least, once I finally figure out who's job everything is.
