There's something about the weather, though, that is symbolic for how people seem to make progress; it's never in a straight line. It would be easier if the temperature rose each day, degree by degree, until maxing out in mid August and then slowly fell to its lows in February. The snow and rain could come and go at random as they always do, but the temperature itself would offer a clear understanding of where we stood on the calendar. But it doesn't work like that. You can have 55 degree days on New Years, and snow in the Spring. It can be freezing rain in May, and 70s in December. Now, of course, if you take a step back at the long view, not the day to day, the weather does follow the pattern...but if you get so caught up in the individual events, you're going to be very confused.
As the final season of the Seniors high school career arrives, it's important that they keep this in mind as well. Just like the weather, they'll be outliers all over the place...but that doesn't mean it's time to panic. The main goal is still ahead.
