It's not that the majority was wrong, but rather the majority's decision didn't seem to actually reflect the will of the people...or the correct answer. Often times if you take a poll about which project is best, the winning answer won't be the "best" option...but the one that was just ok. The option that wasn't innovative enough to be amazing, but wasn't scary enough to worry people is what gets picked. The majority doesn't yield the best, it leads to a Frankenstein compromise that truly isn't what anyone actually wants.
What the "majority" usually does is pick the option that'll be the most palatable to the most people. But more and more...it's clear the only way to get the best...is to have someone just pick it.
