Last year, the first of this new system, we were told that we should live in "Proficient" and visit the world of "Distinguished". In other words....none of use were getting Distinguised, or if we did, it would be very very difficult. Considering, at least at the present, there's no reward for getting Distinguished, I didn't even try for it. I rate myself Proficient on almost every category simply because I figured it would be easier. In a way, I was right. There was little debate at my final interview last year, and I went on my way.
This year, however, I'm wondering if I should go for it. After all, why not? Last year I settled...but what could be the harm in going for it? I think I could easily make a case for Distinguished, but there could also be plenty of things to improve which might bump be back to Proficient again. Is it worth even trying? If so, how far is it worth pushing?
I'm still in the process of filling out the form, so I'm not 100% sure which direction I'll go. Could it simply be that Distinguished is so hard to achieve...because so few people ask?
