Biology has always been an odd force for our school to tackle. While many Literature and Math skills can be dispersed throughout various disciplines, much of the Biology instruction is very limited to the 9th grade course. In later years, students take Chemistry, Physics, and other Science courses and may never return to a world of protoplasm, mitochondrion, and semi-permeable membranes. To be honest, those are the only words I remember from my Biology class back in 2003.
Even so, Biology holds just as much weight as any of the tests. The current freshmen will be unable to pass high school without passing the exam, and all students have a great impact on the perception of our school. While some may feel this biological invasion is unfair, or that it shouldn't count, it's still a factor in how we are all perceived. The results will take a month or so to come through, but I'm confident our students will continue to show growth from years past.
With that, it's the end of a very strange, long....yet short week. Only five days remain in the semester. After that, it's all downhill. Or uphill if you prefer that sort of thing.
