While teaching a group of teenagers at 7:45am is not without its challenges, it is nothing compared to the stone-faced crowd of a group of professionals at 7:05 am. I had the chance to share my findings and research on the game-based learning with the full staff today, and the presentation, while rushed and a bit dry, was still a success. Since then, I've had at least half a dozen teachers willing and eager to gamifying their classrooms, and others asking about ways to integrate technology into future lessons. While it's one thing to share peripherally, it was great to have a captive audience. While every teacher needs to teach to their strength, I think everyone can learn from the game-based philosophy.
Of course today was also the day we said goodbye to Nicky Lewis, off to have her baby perhaps leave the hallowed halls of BW for quite a while. She's been a source of inspiration for me over the past four years, and it's going to be difficult to see her go.
Let's hope her game isn't over...it's just being put on pause for a while.
Stay safe BW. See you on the other side of this snow storm...one day or the other.
