One of the key aspects to the game-based curriculum continues to be the use of student freedom. While students had some requirements for the presentation project (at least 15 minutes, dramatically read a poem, provide background information), the actual presentation format was completely up to them. As a teacher, I'm not interested in their ability to make a PowerPoint, or their ability to read the internet, I'm more concerned with their ability to find, synthesize and share information. Isn't that really what it's all about? Can you take a number of sources, process them, and then share your knowledge? If you can take care of those problems, you'll find that you can do just about anything.
On a final note, today was the first day with our new principal, Ms. Hibner. She'll be taking over for Dr. Peretin who has moved up to a new job as head Technology Director in the district. If you see her around the hallways, be sure to welcome her to our school!
And with that, the 99th day of school is over. We now enter the triple digit mark as the winter ticks away.
