Day 130-134: March 18-22, 2013

1. This was the week of presentations.  Students presented their research to the class.

2. Remember to send all PowerPoints to me in advance.  You cannot use flash drives or other options at the time.

3. Don't forget Study Island.  It's due next Wednesday.

Day 125-129: March 11-15, 2013

Picture
1. This week in class is dedicated to organizing notecards into roughly five groups and creating a rough outline.

2. Typed, formal outlines must be done by Friday, along with a PowerPoint/visual presentation with at least five slides.

3. Final presentations must be at least 5-7 minutes.  Don't throw anything away!  You'll need it later.


Day 120-124: March 4-8, 2013

1. In class this week, students took notes on the sources found last week.

2. Remember, all notes must include the source, Q/P/S, and page numbers.  One note per card or cell.

3. Fifty is the minimum....but go for more.  It's always easy to cut later.


Day 115-119: February 25-March 1, 2013

1. Today in class, students began the grand two-week library experience.

2.  Mrs. Hannah gave a fast and furious speech about all the many resources of the library.

3. Find sources on Tuesday through Thursday.  You need 10 by Friday.


Day 113-114: February 21-22, 2013

1. Today in class, we looked at the "how to" behind creating Bibliographies and to use Google Drive and EasyBib.com

2. With time remaining, students were able to finish editing their papers and work on Study Island.

3.  Vocabulary quiz 15 Friday and  Lord of the Flies papers are due as well!

Day 112: February 20, 2013

1. Today in class, we selected topics for the research project.  The current list is downloaded below.  You can switch topics as late as next Tuesday.

2. For the rest of the period, we looked at the research handbook and discussed the dangers of plagiarism.

3.  For tomorrow, report to the library to set up Google Drive accounts, check out EasyBib.com, and finish Study Island.


Day 111: February 19, 2013

1. Today in class, students received the background on the research unit.  The true project begins next Monday.

2. Students were required to pick at least four possible topics and do some background research on them for tomorrow.

3. Tomorrow topics will be selected in the classroom and Lord of the Flies Papers are due.

1. Today was Valentine's Day, so we celebrated by matching you...with your future classes. Good luck.

2. With any time left, students worked on Study Island.  Remember, the rest of it is due at the end of March.

3. Typed Drafts due tomorrow.  Be sure to print or email, otherwise you can't take advantage of the peer review.


Day 106-108: February 11-13, 2013

1. In class this week, students watched The Lord of the Flies (1963 version) and completed the attached notesheet.

2.  The notesheet will be collected on Thursday when I return.  Don't forget to keep working on the paper drafts.

3. Vocabulary Quiz 14 will be on Wednesday.  Don't expect a review...get ready for this one.

2. Wednesday and Thursday,  we will continue with drafting.  Prewriting in due first thing today.

1. Today we were introduced to Literary Criticism.  Don't worry, it's better than it sounds.

2. In class, students looked at four examples of criticism and picked one which will help them write a paper for Lord of the Flies.

3. Over the rest of the week, we will be drafting our third paper of the year.

Day 100: February 1, 2013

1. Today we analyzed the results of the Socratic Seminar Ranking survey.  The results, for many, were quite surprising.

2. Afterwards, students started to analyze the symbols chart.  We will discuss the results tomorrow.

Day 97: January 29, 2013

1. Today in class we conducted our third (and final) Socratic Seminar for The Lord of the Flies.


2.  All novels should be complete and socratic seminar questions prepared.  If you were absent, you will need to complete a make-up activity.

3.  Tomorrow, we will be in the computer lab on a wrap-up activity for the novel.


Day 94-96: January 24-28, 2013

1. Today we talked about masks, both literal and physical, worn by members of society.

2. Students got in groups of five and had to create a skits involving the wearing of a particular mask.

3. Presentations happened on Friday and continued on Monday.  See the handout below for details.  Final seminar on moved to Tuesday.
