I've experienced this before, especially when dealing with training for the marathons. Despite months of training, you show up to the starting line with the entire 26.2 miles still ahead of you. It's not as though you can bank progress and make your final run any easier. I remember, when searching for a job years ago, people would ask "how's the job hunt going"? It was always a silly question to me because the answer was either "badly" or "over". It's not as though one acquires a job in fragments. They either have found a job, or they haven't. By definition, the "job hunt" is always going badly, because the second it goes well, it's over.
So yes, April is a very exciting month coming up. I feel confident our plans will all come to pass...but I need to remember that we haven't done anything yet. Just as my students might feel that getting into college is a measure of success...they'll soon realize they haven't taken a single class yet. The end is just the beginning.
