The strangest part about having the same group of students for 500 days is how much you see them chance in that relatively short amount of time. Sometimes one school year isn't enough to see much growth, but over three years there's been huge changes. They've gone from quiet, slightly-awkward sophomores (as most sophomores are) to leaders in their various fields and young adults ready to head out into the world. It's even stranger that I've essentially stayed the same age for 500 school days while they've completely grown up. I suppose parents deal with this all the time, but the 500 club really puts it in perspective. To borrow a quote, they've grown up slowly, and then all at once.
I've put thought into making this group all attend the same college and then jumping ship with them next year. Perhaps life can be like a sitcom if you really push it. Until then, with 500 days down, we look to the final 46. We're not done yet.
