I could really tell it was happening when we started to check the weather forecast for the week. Negative wind chills were predicted for this morning, and we're supposed to dip into the negatives multiple times later this week. In talking to other teachers, we found ourselves hoping for another delay, or two, or three, or four not because we needed a break (we've had plenty of that) but because perhaps we were afraid to go the whole day with students.
The good news is that, much like "stage fright", the best way to cure the "back to school" fear is to simply...go back to school. About three minutes into my first period class, I found myself thinking "actually...this isn't so bad". Just like that, the fear was gone. It's funny how a little suspense can build something as mundane as "going to work" into something much scarier.
